Meanwhile, the Asuka from Shinji's "dream" watches from afar, despising Shinji and the Asuka of his world that he has resolved to protect.

Re-Take After

Alternative synopsis from another forum
After the events of the Third Impact, Shinji inexplicably finds himself back in the past before all things went awry. Given a chance to rewrite history, would he succeed in leading the world to a better future, or is the fall of humanity truly inevitable with his failure? Or is he merely drifting between dream worlds and reality once again?

We have all seen their descent into madness with the anime series and the OVA. This time, the entire cast is shown in a different light with the glimmer of hope for salvation. Witness the metamorphosis as familiar characters evolve and eventually transcend their original selves. 90? and 180? plot twists are abound yet all of them smoothly fall into place with none of the events or changes appearing absurd or unlikely. Like countless other fans of the original series, Studio Kimigabuchi have asked the question "What if... ?" but they took it to the next level with Evangelion Re-Take by providing satisfactory and plausible answers along with gorgeous artwork which is faithful to the original version.

I found a description at Baka-Updates Manga quite some time ago and I've been looking for it ever since. Words cannot describe how impressed, amazed, and satisfied I am with this work of art.

[EDIT]:
Not that I'm biased or anything but doujin ost's usually sound like crap. The Re-Take OST kinda surprised me though. Of course, it sounds nothing like the original series and they're using mostly low-budget synths but, all in all, I think it sounds pretty good and it really suits the mood of Re-Take. I'll be studying tonight with this playing in the background.

Any thoughts or interpretations on the ending?  So back at the real world, are they just dreaming forever at the end, when they were laying back on the stone...seemingly sleeping or are they.... Also who the little girl (or boy) that crawled from the shore?

Hell-Yeah I was gonna post about it to spread its greatness but someone already did!

I loved it  A TRULY MUST READ

The Funny thing is I just stumbleupon it and thought it was another hentai doushinji  and Never been happier the story WAS SO F**KING AWSOME.  Sure it confused me at first  But it made complete sense in the end. It had moments that made me nearly cry

I've read this a while ago and I have to say it is a recommended read, if your a fan of the EVA series.  It confused me at first, but after my second and third read it just became a god send from heaven.

I heart the story and the hentai was a plus.

Next up, Rebuild.  I can't wait.

Ok. I am going to be reading this again for the 10 (?+) time since it was first scanlated. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have this alternative story become animated. :3

...It is most undesirably detestable to brag which I seldom do, but just for Evangelion, I will set aside my conscience and scream on the top of my lungs the following: Yes, I *beep* to the softcore scene, I read it over and over, I did this and that, and I enjoyed it to the EXTREME!
